WIM- What inspired me- Kusudama Revenge

I’ve always had this idea in the back of my head, to make a kusudama ball trio and hang them all together. We’ll I did it once, a while back, and my cats (kitties then) decided one night to play soccer with them and then got hungry and chewed on them. I spend nearly 8 hours making them, and when I saw them ruined I was so mad that I stopped making kusudama art for a while. Anyhow, I always wanted to redeem myself and this time keep my work away from my critters, so here it is. Tripledama v 2.0

My skill has gotten better, my folds are smoother, the flowers are more symmetrical and my corners don’t bend anymore. After making so many of these I feel that every time I make a new one it is better than the last one. I guess in this case practice makes perfect. I still spend a lot of time on them, but now its more of a creative process, I have also created my own designs with different petals and different folds, and that just makes me happy.

WIM – What Inspired Me

The idea behind WIM is a weekly post based on my favorite creations and why I made them.

When working with art, I always found red to be a little intimidating, mainly because red is difficult to photograph and hard to manage in almost any medium. In my paintings, red was always a color I had trouble with, it either looked too pink or ugly red… With paper, I have always had a difficult time finding the perfect shade of red, one that isn’t generic or makes me hungry (yes red triggers hunger, google it). One day while shopping for supplies I came across a book with 2 red patterns that I fell in love with and since then I have kept them and feared to make anything out of them because I would no longer have them! Ironic, that red always finds a way to not be my friend.

So finally, I gave in, and I have created this small floral piece inspired by this wonderful yet complicated color. Viva el Red!
