Paper Insomnia

I keep falling asleep and waking up in random intervals, all I can remember is dreaming of origami flowers, some giant ones, some tiny ones. I dream of the folding sequence of the origami paper crane, and then I get it all wrong and end up with a squid of some sorts.

I think I may be losing my mind, but perhaps that is what I need to start making some mad paper arts.

In the meantime, here is something pretty I made:

WIM – What Inspired Me – Mini flower explosion while husband was gone.

The hubby was out of town for work this weekend, so I had 2 days by myself to be bored and miss him. I chose to sit down and work on 1 piece that would take a long long time and would keep my mind occupied. Something I had not done before, of my own creation. I wanted it to be complicated as well as detailed.

So I came up with this design. It is a variation of a traditional kusudama flower. I created the design a little bit ago while messing around with paper. This design takes a little longer to put together but I like the end result.

So I spent about an hour picking the colors… then about another hour deciding what size I wanted the flowers to be. I started with 1 giant flower, and then somehow ended up with 21 ity bity flowers (from my usual).. Overall it took about 7 hours to make all the flowers, the vase (which by the way is also an origami vase), the flower arranging etc etc etc.

Boring? No. Challenging? a little…

Should my husband go out of town again so I can bury myself in origami? Not if I want to keep my sanity!

Did I mention I forgot to eat while he was gone and also forgot to feed the pets and water the plants? I am not very functional without him. But after all, he is always my inspiration.

DIY Tutorial: Origami Paper Box

In the following tutorial you will learn how to make a cute and useful origami box by using a square piece of paper. You can use any paper you may have, but the bigger you go the sturdier your paper should be or your box will not be able to hold anything heavy. For this tutorial I am using origami paper I got from Hong Kong.

If you want to see more decorated and fancier boxes, visit our shop at www.papersquare.etsy.com

1- Begin by getting a square piece of paper of any size, as long as it is square.

2- Fold your paper diagonally (so it looks like a triangle)

3- Unfold and repeat on the other side so you get an X mark like this:

4- Fold one of the corners up to the middle of your X mark (do this for all 4 corners)

5-Your paper should now look like this:

6- Now, fold one side in half like this:

7-Do the same for the other side, then unfold and do it for the remaining 2 sides as well so you will have something like this:

8- Now, unfold one of the triangles

9- Pinch and fold both sides like this:

10-Do this for both sides and bring the flap down

11- Do this for the other side as well and you are finished!

This box can be made in any size, once you fold up to step 7, the square in the center is going to be the bottom of your box, so you can see if thats the size you want.

Visit our shop at: www.papersquare.etsy.com for a lot of different styles and decorations of these boxes.
